Battle of the Cowshed

Entry by Snowball

Snowball says:
Jones and his men were circling the farm, bringing us into wild excitement!
Our first attack was launched by the pigeons. They flew over the head of the men and muted all over them! Then the geese ran from their hiding place and pecked viciously at their calves.  The men beat them off with their sticks, and they advanced quite a bit. Next came Muriel, Benjamin, all the sheep, with me at the head. We ran forward, knocking them off balance. We prodded, bucked, kicked and bit!  I called the signal for retreat, and we let them enter the yard in total disorder.
After that 3 horses, 3 cows, and the rest of the pigs surrounded them from behind. I also ran straight for Jones, biting his leg, resulting in a pellet leaving a gash in my back.
I saw Boxer rear up, and lash at a stable boy, bringing him down in one blow. When the other men saw that they turned around and fled!
Finally all men were gone, except the one Boxer had kicked. He lay face down in the dung, and Boxer pawed at him trying to turn him over. He didn't move!
That's when we discovered Mollie was missing. She was found hiding in her stall! How lazy!
Later we buried the sheep who had been shot and gave medals to Boxer and Snowball.

The green flag represented the green fields of England, while  the hoof and horn symbolized 'The Future Republic of Animals' that would arise when humans were totally overthrown.

Selfish Pigs!

Entry by Mollie
I do not understand! Why must the pigs refuse me my colorful ribbons! It doesn't mean I am in favor of Mr. Jones! (Although I am starting to change my mind about these selfish pigs!)
Why do they get rid of all my delicious sugar lumps! I need those! They are just jealous I got more attention then they ever did!
And today, we found out that the pigs have been keeping all the milk and apples to themselves! I know that Clover, Boxer, and I wouldn't mind some sweet apples, windfall or not! The dogs and cats might thrive off of some thick milk! Then Squealer comes up with this big story about how they actually don't even enjoy the stuff they are hoarding, but it is only for their best will. He kept repeating that Jones would surely come back if their health wasn't preserved. As if they weren't perfectly healthy when Jones was still here! And so what if Jones would come back? At least I would have my delicious sugar and beautiful ribbons!

The Seven Commandments

The 7 commandment inscribed on the barn wall.

Tyrant Man Overthrown!!!

Entry by Boxer

Old Major, my hero, died awhile ago. We buried him by the orchard.
These last couple weeks Mr. Jones is getting drunk all the time and forgetting to feed us, even when we work harder then ever!
On Tuesday, we were starving, and sick of Jones's attitude. One of the cows broke into the store-shed and all of us began eating hungrily.
The next moment whips were lashing around us!! Mr. Jones had come back. He and 4 men strode around us, cracking the whip. We couldn't bear it anymore! We dove at them, scattering them! I felt so proud, galloping into the fattest of Jones' pals! We butted them and kicked them, all inflicting our own share of damage.
A few minutes later they gave up, and we watched them run down the driveway to the road. We have overthrown tyrant man!

After that we took all objects of Jones' cruelty; such as the whips, halters, bridles, nose rings, dog chains and knives, and threw them into a roaring fire!
Everyone received extra corn dished out by Napoleon. Then we sang Beasts of England 7 times over, while running at full speed!

Old Majors Speech

Entry by Snowball

Today Old Major called all of us animals into the barn for a meeting, which sort of surprised us, because he seemed to be fading slowly before our very eyes!
Apparently he had had a strange dream the night before and wished to talk about it.
I agree with Old Major!! The source of all our troubles here at Manor Farm is man. They use our hard work to their advantage, and hardly ever even feed us. They are greedy and wicked! Without man, the subject of all our troubles would be over!!
Old Majors main message to us was rebellion! He encourages a rebellion. Chasing man off of Manor Farm, and working it ourselves.
I will follow Old Majors thoughts perfectly! With out man we will be so much happier! All men are enemies! All animals are comrades!
Old Major gave us several rules that runs as follows" No animal must live in a house, smoke tobacco, sleep in a bed, engage in trade, wear clothes, touch money, or drink alcohol. All habits of man are evil!
He concluded his speech by singing a song called "The Beasts of England". What a wonderful and heartfelt song! I would copy it down, but I do not have it fully memorized yet! My favorite lines are: 'tyrant man shall be o'er thrown' and 'the golden future time'! When man is overthrown our future will look good!
I think most of left the main barn with full minds and plenty to think about!
